The piece explores an increasingly important reality: while AI is often seen as a driver of sustainability, its environmental footprint remains largely invisible. Behind every model lies energy-intensive infrastructure, such as data centers, continuous computation, and complex hardware supply chains.
This raises a critical question: not whether AI can support sustainability, but whether we are measuring the sustainability of AI itself.
